Velakali
A form of martial dance, Velakali is a temple art form performed by men. The artists are dressed up with traditional attires and colorful head dresses to imitate the medieval Nair warriors. In the Shree Krishna temple it is celebrated with great pomp and show.

This dance form was originated at Ambalappuzha Temple having 250 years history. It is performed in a satirical manner by the amateur artists. The theme is based on the social elements. It was initially performed by the veteran artist Kunchan Nambiar, and it has an interesting story behind its origin.
