Velakali
A form of martial dance, Velakali is a temple art form performed by men. The artists are dressed up with traditional attires and colorful head dresses to imitate the medieval Nair warriors.  The main features of this dance form are sword play, measure movements, and music of orchestra group. It has been practiced to improve the martial art of the men. In the Shree Krishna temple it is celebrated with great pomp and show.

Culture
The rich cultural life is witnessed in the celebrations and traditional beliefs of the people. Like other places of kerala, Alappuzha is an abode of secularism where people of all religion take part in a cultural festival and celebration-be it a Christmas or a temple or mosque celebration. Ottan Thullal
This dance form was originated at Ambalappuzha Temple having 250 years history. It is performed in a satirical manner by the amateur artists. The theme is based on the social elements.  It was initially performed by the veteran artist Kunchan Nambiar, and it has an interesting story behind its origin.
