Nehru Trophy Boat Race in Kerala

A Kerala tour will be more fruitful if one gets the chance to explore the most colorful boat festival of Kerala, Nehru Trophy Boat Race. It is a great yearly water carnival held at Punnamada Lake in Alapuzzha (Alleppey). This festival commemorates the visit of the First Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru to this place in 1952. This boat race is held on the second Saturday of August.

Nehru Trophy Boat Race in Kerala

Nehru Trophy Boat Race attracts a large number of domestic and international tourists as it is a great extravaganza in Kerala. The participants take part in this festival with full spirit. The snake boats are roared in a tune when the oarsmen ride the boats. Rhythmic boat songs complement the boat race. The spectators shout in joy.

Colorful boat pageantry introduces the boat race in which 100 to 120 oarsmen paddle the boat with the tune of the boat song.  This water sport symbolizes the unity of the villages and peoples.
