Sabarimala Pilgrimage in Kerala

One of the most renowned pilgrim centers in Kerala, Sabarimala Pilgrimage site attracts a large number of devotees from the southern states. This is located in Pathanamthitta district of Kerala. The temple located here is dedicated to deity Lord Ayyappa, a symbol of unity of the Vaishnavites and Saivites.

Sabarimala Pilgrimage in Kerala

The Sabarimala temple is located on the deep mountains of the Western Ghats and one can reach this temple only on foot.  Pilgrims have to trek through the wild forests to reach this spot. Sabarimala temple remains open during the festival time and five days of every Malayalam month and during 'Vishu' in April.

Festival of Sabarimala :
Sabarimala temple celebrates an annual festival on January 14, synchronizing with the day of Sankramom (crossing of the sun from Dhakshinayana to Uttarayana). Lakh of devotees visit the shrine chanting the name of Lord Ayyappa. While walking to the Sabarimala temple pilgrims on the way worship at a shrine dedicated to a Muslim valor who is said to be a close associate of Lord Ayyappa.
