Waterfalls in Kerala

The natural bounties make Kerala, God’s own Country the most visited destination in India. The mountainous region and highlands of Kerala have some spectacular waterfalls which are popular picnic spot for the nature lovers. While visiting Kerala one can explore the waterfalls mentioned below.

Waterfalls in Kerala

Idukki Waterfalls :
Idukki district of Kerala has several scenic waterfalls which are worthvisiitng sites of nature.  Attukal is a spectacular place located in between Munnar and Pallivasal; the beautiful waterfalls located here are feast to the eyes. It is also ideal for the trekkers. The Cheeyappara and Valara waterfalls are a major haunt for the tourist as these waterfalls falls down in seven steps creating an astounding sight. These are located in between Narimangalam and Adimali. Nyayamkad is a breathtaking site of waterfalls located at a distance of 10 kilometers from Munnar. Cascading down from a height of 1600 meters the waters of the falls create a breathtakingly beautiful sight.

Power House Waterfall is also a worth viewing site 18 kms away from Munnar. The western mountain range and its green beauty add beauty to the entire setting of the waterfalls. Thommankuthu is a renowned picnic spot in Idukki district as it has numerous waterfalls. One can enjoy the panoramic beauty of the waterfalls and the downside green valley. It is paradise for the trekking enthusiasts.

Waterfalls in Ernakulam :
Mulamkuzhi village is located a distance of 15 kilometers from Malayattur.  The River Mulamkuzhi and the waterfalls of Venanbravady near Malayattur make it a favorite picnic spot for the nature lovers. One can also explore the confluence of confluence of the rivers Periyar and Perumthode.

Kozhikode (Calicut) Waterfalls :
Thusharagiri is 50kms away from Kozhikode; the tribal village and the natural bounties make it a popular destination in Calicut. Two streams originated from the Western Ghats form the River Challipuzha which deviates into three waterfalls.  Trekking 5 kilometers to the up stream one can reach the origin of the streams. The highest waterfall is Thenpara which cascades down 75 meters. 

Kottayam Waterfalls :
Kesari and Maramala waterfalls are located in Kottayam district of Kerala.The Kesari waterfalls are also known as Valanjamkanam falls located in spectacular setting of Kuttikanam and Murinjapuzha.  Trekking to Kuttikanan one can explore the vast bounties of nature.

Maramala Waterfall is about 7 kilometers from Teekoy rubber Estate. One has to drive 5 kilometers road distance to reach this waterfall. The path is rocky.  The waters fall down to the pool and meet the River Teekoy.

Palakkad (Palghat) Waterfalls :
Dhoni is a scenic spot of nature enriched by the Dhoni hills, waterfalls and greeneries. It is about 15 kilometers away from Palakkad. Meenvallam waterfalls attract the adventurous trekkers; it is 8 kilometers from Thuppanad junction. The height of the waterfalls is about 20 to 25 feet. One can reach the two steps of the waterfalls and the other eight waterfalls are unreachable. One can drive from Koomankund junction and has to trek 1.5 km by crossing the river Thuppanad.
